It's in his post: he has problem finding an appropriate bios for Chankast.

Dummy file located in the inner side of disc may provide better compatibility or higher access speed by pushing useful files outside, since some Dreamcasts have problem loading track that is too close to the center of disc. It works on my dreamcasts indeed.

Exactly. I remeber doing this in the early days, because some homebrew wasn't starting. Could you send me your image to test it?
Also, I've found a working bios for chankast, but it seem tha chankast can't interface with the drivers of Windows 7 x64. It tells me "can't read TOC" every time with every cd.

Done Smile

Table Of Content, the indexs of files and directories.

Thanks to ms18e, I have a working copy of Dreamshell!

RE: Burning DreamShell question - lolof - 16.03.2011 17:51

Hello,

I also own a old dreamcast model from 1999 (Jap).
Could someone give me a link with a modified working cdi image. I do not have the knowledge to add myself the dummy file in the cdi image.
I also would like to run dreamshell on my dc Tongue
Thanks in advance.

Edit : I made one myself with magiciso and dreamtools with dummy file option. Thanks
Edit 2 : The image I made myself works perfectly in nulldc but do not want to load at all in my real dc where I never had problems with other software. Help still needed ! Thanks

Edit 3 :Thanks to ms18e, I was able to create a working image for my dc (audio/data) instead of data/data who was not working for me.

RE: Burning DreamShell question - astaroth - 12.05.2011 21:02

Hi,

I am having a problem with this too.

Firstly, it's a 0 revision machine so i'm assuming i'm having the "data too close the the centre of the disk" problem.

I have hardwired the SD adapter into the DC and double checked it and i'm happy it's wired fine.

But, every time i burn a dreamshell disc it sticks at the start-up screen.

I've tried both Cdi and sd loader images.

I've also tried the whole putting dummy file at the beginning but i'm either not doing right or don't understand fully what it is asking. The only software i can't use is mkisofs. I have a moderately good understanding of computers but not quite anywhere near that of you guys!

Sorry to come begging, but i've got this far and i desperately want it finished!

Is it possible to link me to an iso i can burn with a dummy file already in it please? Or any lead top where i can sort this problem?

Also, i burn games fine using alcohol 120% so my burning skills are fine.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Asta

UPDATE: Slight progress! Big Grin

After making 13 more coasters, i finally decided to try and burn dchakker and see if that worked. It did! However, when i try and play any of the .bin games it reboots the CD! Huh

Still, it's progress.....................

So, i decided to extract dchakker and extract Dreamshell 4.0 Beta 4 DC SD Loader, then place 1DC_CORE.BIN in the folder in dchakker, then run it all through Selfboot, making a new bootable .cdi which included the SD version of Dreamshell. And, i think it worked! Big Grin

I "opened" 1DC_CORE.BIN and got a screen saying "Can't init SD filesystem". I assume that it tried to load Dreamshell, but my circuitry must be wrong somewhere?

Well, at least i've "kind of" sorted one problem, but have now created another!

If anyone knows why i cannot boot straight from SWATs original Dreamshell 4.0 Beta 4 (From SD Loader) file, it'll be greatly appreciated!

RE: Burning DreamShell question - SWAT - 13.05.2011 17:15

Do you have a SD adapter?
Try to run the DS_CORE.BIN (not 1DS_CORE.BIN from cdi image) from the "DS From SD Loader" archive.

I have soldered in an internal SD adapter following the online guides (circuit board with LED and two capacitors etc). Is that what you mean?

I'm not sure what you mean by "From the DS From SD Loader" archive?

I have placed DS_CORE.BIN onto the dchakker disc and tried to boot it via Dream Loader and it states "Can't find SD filesystem". I assume that my circuit is wrong somewhere.

What i don't understand is why when i burn Dreamshell 4 (From SD Loader) to disc, it does not selfboot and hangs at the Dreamcast screen? Is it meant to have an IP.BIN file along with DS_CORE.BIN inside the .CDI? As when i extract the image all that is in there is DS_CORE.BIN, no IP.BIN?

Thanks for the help so far.

RE: Burning DreamShell question - astaroth - 14.05.2011 06:22

Huge, HUGE thank you to ms18e.

Provided me with one simple file that i burned and it worked first time! If i had listened to you in the first place i wouldn't have 15 coasters and wasted hours of my time getting dreamshell to run.

THANKS!

Also had "can't init SD filesystem" error but after a few hours with a multimeter and soldering iron i undid all the sloppy soldering parts and got it working.

Once agin thanks to ms18e for the help, and to SWAT and everyone else involved in keeping the DC scene alive.

I salute you!

P.S. It might be an idea to publish the download that ms18e gave me as it may help more people with first revision machines who run into the same problem?

Oh I thought it's a easy job for SWAT creating an iso with dummy file and release it, I didn't know he is waiting my copy

I cannot send him an email since I don't know his account. You may forward my email with attachment to him, property doesn't matter Smile

RE: Burning DreamShell question - SWAT - 15.05.2011 17:01

Creating a new image with a dummy file not an issue. But maybe he is once again not workingSmile I wanted to get 100% tested image.

Yes, to make a cautious release Smile

So far as I know, three members of this forum (SIMPSONPOWA, Asta, dottor_male) got my version and it worked well on their DC. I tried to upload it as attachment for your reference, but it seems that *.rar files are not acceptable for this forum...

RE: Burning DreamShell question - lolof - 16.05.2011 03:00

Hello,

I also have his version from dreamshell sd loader.
It works very well on my Jap DC (with heatpipe).

I have repacked the stand alone image "DreamShell 4.0 Beta 4 (CDI Image)" in audio/data

Here is the link :

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7LABCRYB

It will be surely useful for people having the first jap model Dreamcast with heatpipe that cannot run the data/data cdi disc from the download link here....

The no mil-cd capable dreamcast will be not able to boot this disc, it seems that the 2 versions are needed to cover all the dreamcast !

I let ms18e post his repacked "DreamShell 4.0 Beta 4 (Form SD Loader)" cdi

RE: Burning DreamShell question - SWAT - 16.05.2011 07:43

Thanks!
ms18e you can upload your image to file sharing?

RE: Burning DreamShell question - astaroth - 16.05.2011 11:05

Hi,

Here is the exact file ms18e sent me that's works perfectly on my first revision DC.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XV7PLOQG

Again, thanks to ms18e, SWAT, and everyone else keeping the DC scene alive!

RE: Burning DreamShell question - Anthony817 - 16.05.2011 11:52

Awesome job on getting astaroth helped out ms18e. ^^

If you are wanting to download sdiso's, we already have a bunch at this site. http://www.dcisozone.com/index.php

Search "sdiso" and you should see them all.

We have 35 sdiso's at the time of this post.
