DS HDD IDE games files directory Issue - Ro Magnus Larsson - 23.07.2025 10:16
GAMES Folder got inutilized, I can not access to the folder
Maybe I changed something wrong in new DS folder or something happened from DS /RD booting?, anyone suffered the same?
1-As the uploaded image shows GAMES folder (JUEGOS) and some files suffered a change and got inutilized,
2-also it was created those "CACHE" files without extension (they are around 1Gb each one)
3rd- The HDD name SEGA_HDD3 was changed to D.
I did not do anything more to the HDD
Whta can I try to do without loose all that 180Gb precius data?

Looks like broken fs and/or bad sectors. This should not happen under any settings.
You didn't say what you did before this happened. What software you used and what versions.

What I only did is to update some DS/RD v3.3 folder files from HDD (connected to PC via USB addapter), can some files placed wrongly provoke this ? Also I erased a "cache" file from a DS folder. Nothing more I did to the HDDs
Very strange! It happened to other HDD too! where NeoGeo/NeoGeo CD games folder totally dissapeared and it was created CACHE '.' unused files. I tried to defragment the HDD (Deffragler&Victoria software) the CACHE '.' files changed but games never appeared again.

It is very bad if you connect the HDD via a USB adapter, like a flash drive.

I always connect via USB and it's fine.
This problem is most likely related to computer and its OS.

DC-SWAT: I discovered what coused this strange problem: It happenned with my All 3 HDDs !!!. When I launch DS from RD v3.3 (Start-Launch DS) it cause the same issue in the files!!!. I go to the DS classic games list and almost all games changed to that unknown format and names (CACHE '.').
ANY IDEA OF WHAT DIRECTORY / FILE WOULD BE PROVOKING THIS ??? MORE IMPORTANT ANY IDEA FOR RECOVERING THEM ?
PD: What I have previusly done here is replace Dragoncity RD v3.2 files for the RD V3.3 version to update it (some were the same /some not) but no idea which directory/file/folder could be doing this

I can't say anything about RD. DreamShell doesn't do that.

I used RD v3.3 and often launched DS through it (Start-Launch DS). I also added RD v3.3 + new version of DS 4.0.1 Release to the build. And I did not find such a problem. All game files are in place in the original version without extraneous files and folders. Perhaps the problem is not in RD?

For me, @SWAT is right, the problem come from the computer, I'm using a sata3 to usb for adding/removing games and never had any issues, since dreamshell 4.0.

It maybe could be the conection/desconection USB-IDE, I dont really know. If you could only share your working RD 3.3/DS 4.0.1 (or DS 4.0.2) it could help me a lot, no compromise, Im stuck with this drama because it provoked to all my HDD IDE the same issue. im trying to recover the lost files with some software

I have Dreamshell since 2019 and I also never had this issue till now, Im trying now to recover the files and re-install all again, long work to do
