Problems with SD Card Adapter and/or Dreamshell.

Hello.

I recently decided to go ahead and purchase a SD card adpater for my Dreamcast.The thing is that now I'm not so sure it wasn't a waste of time.

I made my purchase from Ebay, and although it wasn't this exact seller, this is the model I ordered here.

After receiving it, I grabbed a loose 2GB MicroSD card I had, and put it into an full size SD card adapter. I formatted it as FAT16, and even doublechecked in a separate MicroSD to SD adapter to ensure that it was working properly in my PC.

I downloaded Dreamshell 4 RC1 from this site here (Full CDI), burned it, and loaded it up successfully on my DC. I then plugged in my SD card, and SD card adapter, in to the DC.

Ultimately no matter what I try to do (File browser, SD loader, Reset with card plugged in, Partially plugged in, Fully seated, etc.), the Dreamshell doesn't detect the SD card adapter. I've tried an additional 16GB MicroSD card with no luck.

Can someone tell me if I've missed something here, or have I simply ordered a defective item? Are there certain SD adapters that are incompatible with Dreamshell 4 RC1?

Any help would be appreciated.

It happened to me too, using SD card 2-Gig, was resetting.
I used 4 Gigas worked perfectly!

Why do you use FAt 16? It is better to use FAT 32.
Try these cards on Beta 4 and tell me the result plz.

First you must plug in SD card adapter with SD card plugged in then boot up Dreamhell.

Mine was not resetting. It wasn't being detected in the file browser, or the sd loader menus at all.

Only because it was the default for that size card, but I had also tried a 16 GB formatted as Fat32.

Okay. I have done this, but the card still isn't being detected.

Well then..., I guess I'm out of luck with this particular card.

I have no previous experience with circuitry, wiring, soldering, etc., and I have no soldering tools at the moment. Is there a possibility I may be able to repair the unit, or could someone suggest the easiest method for making one of my own?

I read a thread on assemblergames.com that it might even be possible using parts from an old 3.5" floppy drive, and considering I have an entire box of floppy drives, maybe I could try that one.

What else would I need if I found a matching floppy drive connector? Sorry for the newbness on the matter.

I have same problem !
My Sd card is 32gb and worked with oldest dreamshell versions!
now when i try to open it with SDloader .. nothing happens! tried this with 2 diffrent sd cards ! wont open !

So obviously it's not your problem but dreamshell's one.
Hi Stryfe, try and use previous dreamshell version.

The latest version is more demanding on the quality of the adapter, the length of the wires and can be in the card itself (i recommended >= 6 class). Try the other cards, but better try another reader, usually the reason it is here.

Ok ... can you recommend a "good" adapter which can be ordered from internet?

I do not know what readers are good and which bad, I can say only one thing - do not buy the adapter with wires, only as dongle.

The beta 3 & 4 did not work for me, so my final guess is that my adapter is broken/defective.

Can anyone help me determine what parts I need to accomplish this build here?



I already found the same floppy drive he used, but I have no clue what parts he used to bridge the serial port connection with the soldered MicroSD to SD adapter.
