There is sometimes problem with hard disk,I have and IDE is lag with "TDC Final 2.cdi" during the choice and combat.
And an other IDE no problem...so be careful !
you asked for video, please find here link to video, also in house of the dead same, in street fighter in charecter select little slow down, but some few games like blue stinger runs almost normal,, so it cant be bad hdd right?

For crazy taxi it's sure,you have a little lag...doesn't with me with CF or Sata.
I think 2 things!
The first,why you remove true DMA...with GDI OPT it's for have true DMA...and true DMA is the best!
The second,format your SATA in 64 clusters.

my console is NTSC/UC , activating dma +true , or dma alone causes the game to give black screen not starting, are you sure that this cluster thing will help? because its a biiiig headache to copy HDD content to my pc , format , then copy back , so I wont do it unless it looks helpful to you,

Yes it's the problem,for my test it's the PAL game on Dreamcast PAL with GDI Opt in true dma.
But your config it's US game on Dreamcast US (or jap),so it's not the same config.
Try to test all memories to launch the game ;-)

ok just finished, it took almost 2 hours but finished, formated with 64kb clusters
result : no change...
what to do?

Have you test all memories in GDI?
If after there is again a "lag" it's maybe your hard disk or maybe your version of gdi ( I use a Pal Gdi) or maybe a lag with dreamcast us but the last solution ^^

Soul calibur works on my CF card perfectly with default memory,
But with SATA glitch on the menu choice character.

Cf, sata ssd and ide ssd works.

Since rc3 that soucalibur works. But it is not perfect it goes without sound in the screen of character and without sound in the penultimo stage.

i tried a Maxtor 3.5 hdd sata, its faster bcoz its 7200 while the 2.5 is 5200, but i was surprised that the 3.5 did not work by dreamcast power!! so i had to power it from external power supply.
anyway regarding crazy taxi its still lagging, less but still lagging, so i will look for another gdi.
soul calibur after many tries worked once, intro movie was green and stopped and skipped, no music on select charecter but pictures of players no glitch, but it freezed before first match started

If you use an extension it's normal for 3.5 I have the same problem.
But directly it works.
You need to put also 12v!!

by the way, I think I might have accedently found out something helpful to the argument about sata and cf here with soul calibur;
sc gdi optimized pal; didnt work at all
sc gdi not optimized pal; worked partially, starting movie green stops before kilik appears, character select screen no picture glitch but no music, game freeze on loading of first fight.

what i think is : type of gdi matters
