RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 09:42 OK, may have just been a loose connection on my DC then, or the console was left in an unknown state? It didn't seem to do it the other day, so I'll try it again later and see how it goes. Right now, I've just tried booting from CD-R, and DS booting from HDD, and it's much better. Now I can play twice as many games in Direct mode. Just need to crack that BIOS protection now, and I'll probably never use a GD drive ever again. lol It's definitely booting the core from the HDD though, which is excellent! OzOnE. RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - SWAT - 12.06.2014 10:35 Ahh I'm edit prev post after your answer... I make new bios for boot loader with switching, test it: http://www.dc-swat.ru/download/dc/ds/4.0/boot_loader_wsc_bfont_switch.7z RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 10:38 Oooh, nice. I think the link is broken though? Looks like the URL was pasted, but is the short version (eg. "4.0..._switch.7z" at the end). RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - SWAT - 12.06.2014 10:40 Sorry, I'm make copy-paste from prev post... Fixed. RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 10:47 OK, trying now.... It just freezes at the "Press A" part? I tried the controller in all four ports, and tried rebooting / removing the CD, but it won't go past the Press A part? I'll try plugging in the DC keyboard - I noticed before with the KOS examples that it can freeze if no keyboard is plugged in! Still no joy. I have the keyboard plugged into port 2 now... I tried pressing A on the controller with the BIOS switch set to the SWAT BIOS, then tried setting to Sega BIOS, then without a CD-R in / lid open, then with no SD card in etc. (resetting after each attempt). Code is stuck somewhere? RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 11:03 If it makes it easier, you could try just adding a 4-second delay to allow switching to stock BIOS? RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - SWAT - 12.06.2014 11:06 I think it's freezes at GD-ROM initialization... I just added some message for check it. Download again. RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 11:19 OK, thanks. Testing.... Just says... "Please switch to stock BIOS and press A" "Initializing GD-ROM..." Then freezes? RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 11:32 (in other words, it shows the "Initializing GD-ROM" before I even press start?) RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - SWAT - 12.06.2014 12:57 Hmm... Ok, I'll deal with it later, I did just a delay of 5 seconds. Download again. RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 13:12 No problem. Just trying the delay one.... Still freezes at the "Initializing GD-ROM" stage? Does that mean I need to switch to the stock BIOS before the "Init GD-ROM" message shows? I've tried that, but it gets stuck? Has anything else changed in the code? Just a delay should have been enough? OzOnE. RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - SWAT - 12.06.2014 15:31 (12.06.2014 13:12)OzOnE писал(а): Does that mean I need to switch to the stock BIOS before the "Init GD-ROM" message shows? Yes, before this message. (12.06.2014 13:12)OzOnE писал(а): Has anything else changed in the code? Just a delay should have been enough? Just move initialization of GD drive and iso fs from KOS kernel to the boot loader code after delay... Hmm maybe this is problem of the syscalls... I make new bios, remove GD drive initialization and add only BIOS check before IDE initialization. Try it. RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 16:10 Working now. Well, it WAS working... So, I switched to the stock Sega BIOS just before the messages appeared and left it switched to stock... It booted from SD (IDE wasn't shown?), but I was still able to read the HDD and boot Sonic Adv 1 in Direct mode. But now it doesn't seem to want to boot after the Dreamshell 2.2 Boot Loader, just a black screen? I think maybe something on my SD card has been corrupted? It did definitely work though. Do you need to load anything else from the custom BIOS after boot? ie. should I switch back to the Flash BIOS at a certain point? I've tried that too, but it's getting stuck after the loader screen now (red spiral)? OzOnE. RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 16:24 Weird - it doesn't want to boot into DS at all now? I've just formatted the SD card, then loaded DS RC 2.2 back on, but it still won't boot past the "Red Spiral" loader? I can hear two faint clicks from the TV speakers as if it's initializing the AICA, but then a black screen? I've tried unplugging the HDD and booting from SD, but still no joy? Really strange, as it worked fine the first few times? I'll boot from CD-R again and see what works... RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - SWAT - 12.06.2014 19:37 Nothing else is loaded from the BIOS. Obviously not everything is so simple, need to continue to try. I think we need to leave the conversation on forum, look at your private messages. RE: need help with dreamcast HDD IDE - OzOnE - 12.06.2014 20:27 It's quite strange - I've tried comparing the Flash to the new one just to be sure, and it still boots fine via stock BIOS / CD-R, but the new test BIOS doesn't want to load DS core? Oh well. I'll have to figure something out. Do you have a method for debugging the BIOS on the real DC? I'd love to be able to use the serial port again, so I can play with some KOS stuff. I might try that tonight by booting from HDD, and connecting to the serial port. OzOnE.
