bios questions. - boxcutter - 26.03.2016 23:20

hello

a few questions.

1: do i write the bios files to the flashchip directly using my external programmer, or do i need to byteswap them first?

2: on the "unlock G1" mod, what is the switch for?
and can both the original rom and the new flash be replaced by a single 4meg chip with the pic flipping the upper address line?

thanks for great work. Big Grin

1. Yes, you can. No need byteswap.
2. This mod is not actual. It's switch the flash chip for passing protection checking. Now boot loader bios firmware can pass protection checking without it.

so the new RC4 bioses just work? great. Smile
which should i use if i want to put DS on an SD-card and boot games from a harddrive?

Boot loader supported all devices as DreamShell, you can boot core from any device and run games from any device.

so what are the differences between:
boot_loader_devkit.bios
boot_loader_retail.bios
sd_loader_with.bios

i persume the first 2 are just the boot-intro, but what is the 3rd?

sd_loader_with.bios it's a first firmware that can pass the Holly protection. But it's support only SD and has some compatibility issues in KATANA games.
But you can use it for running homebrew from HDD, because homebrew use full firmware for passing protection, but really need only part.

so i should just use boot_loader_retail.bios to get what i wanted,
DS on SD and GDR's on a hardrive? Smile

Yep, you can use any device for boot DS on this firmware.
