Trouble booting from ssd - ArturRGT - 09.09.2020 18:36
Hello again. This is the second system i modded. The first one works perfectly. This one is giving me some trouble. Everytime i put the boot loader disk in the cd drive it gives me this screen, which i know is not normal:

Sometimes it gives this same screen but without the weird dots. And sometimes it boots into dreamshell and allows me to play normally! I would say it boots me into dreamshell in about 1 in 10 times. Otherwise it goes to a black screen after showing this.
This is my current setup:

Does anyone know the issue or have seen this before?

And just ground the extra 40 wires, right? I wonder why this does not happen in my other dreamcast which is modded exactly the same way as i did on this one. What exactly is the issue? Wires interfering one on another?
Also i found out that the dots appear when the console stayed turned off for a long time. Then i reboot it over and over, and every time less dots appear, until it eventually boots. After this, it boots to dreamshell every time i reboot as long as it is still "warm". If it stays too long turned off i have to repeat the process.
I have soldered a ceramic capacitor between points 1 and 2 of my ide to sata adapter, so maybe that's what is causing the issue (i did this in the other dreamcast i have because it wouldn't boot otherwise, so i did it on this one too just for precaution). Could it be defective? I'm not an electronics expert so i don't really know.
The only difference between the two dreamcasts i have is that this one is a VA0 and the other one is a VA1. Does this make a difference?
The other one is not currently with me though, so i'm not able to troubleshoot.

I have simply not connect pin 1.

I don't thing so except if you have change the bios, there are not the same I believe.
Have you try some visual concept games with this SATA 2 IDE adapter please ?
I don't use the same as you may have better result.
